Interested in incorporating Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts or Math (STEAM) into your after school programs? Join us on March 27th to practice bringing STEAM concepts and projects into your learning spaces, no experience needed. This half-day workshop from 10:00 am to 2:30 pm at the University City Science Center is held in collaboration with the Philadelphia Youth Network. You will gain hands-on experience building team-directed STEAM group projects. You’ll leave this session with a resource kit for including STEAM activities into your programs and knowledge of free Philadelphia STEAM resources.
STEAM Initiatives at the Science Center: The University City Science Center adds Art to the STEM subjects of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math, to create project-based STEAM programs and workshops that empower individuals and convene communities around creative applications of technology. Many of our STEAM programs focus on reaching at-risk youth, primarily in the neighborhoods surrounding the Science Center’s West Philadelphia campus, while others are open to all members of the community.Our goal is to spark and nurture a lifelong interest in the STEM disciplines and lower the barriers to entry for those seeking a career in a STEM-related field by: 1) introducing youth to role models in the science, design and engineering fields; 2) translating traditional math and science curriculum to design projects; and 3) building leadership skills and confidence through group projects.
